another shot?

I decided to stay away from this blog I had created and not done anything with because I had to drop out of running. I have bad knees. I've always had bad knees - one in particular - but running certainly wasn't helping them. I was having a hard time getting up and down the stairs. I'm only 34 years old for Pete's sake.

But I missed it. A lot. I have been walking 4+ miles, but it's not the same. I miss the adrenaline rush I get from running.

I wasn't always good about taking ibuprofen before a run or icing my knees after a run, but I am going to be more diligent about it this time and give it a go again.

What's the worst that can happen? Wait, don't answer that.

Monday February 22, 2010

When I first started running, I thought I would run every day. I quickly learned that it was not going to be a physical possibility for me. In the past, I've always loved walking. Just me and my IPOD and the outdoors, rain or shine. So I started alternating days, walk and then run. I have a variation of four different places I go to run/walk. On the weekends I take my kids to one of the local school tracks. My son, who is 12, will run his heart out. Oh, to have the physical capabilities of a 12-year-old again. My daughter, who is 6, has surprised me by running a full mile without stopping....something I have only recently begun to do for the first time in my life.

Anyway, so here is what I am going to do. I will document every day how far I ran or walked or the combination of the two, depending on how I am feeling. I will document how I felt before and after the workout. I will document the weather. Lastly, and best of all...I will document the playlist I used for that day (my favorite part....haha).

Walked 4 Miles
Before the workout I felt good, the sun was shining. I had only intended on doing 2.5 miles but I went an extra 1.5 just because it was such a gorgeous day.
After the workout I felt awesome. I wanted to keep going, but I knew I couldn't do it all day.
The weather was gorgeous yesterday. It was only 36 when i left the house, but the sun was shining and the sky was blue.

Tomorrow is a run day. I'm not truly excited about this. My legs are sore from today's long walk. I should have cut it a little short, but the sunshine was calling my name.
